Applications of Thermoplastic Vulcanizates

In terms of the performance characteristics of thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPV), their primary applications lie in the following areas:


1. Sealing (building and automotive weatherstrips, sealing rings);


2. "Soft Touch"-providing a soft tactile feel (handles, grips);


3. Impact resistance, vibration damping, and flexibility (casters, buffer blocks; wires, cables, and hoses);


4. Plastics modification-enhancing the toughness and impact strength of materials.


Distinguished by performance attributes that set it apart from general thermoplastic elastomers, TPV finds its applications leaning more heavily toward industrial products:


1. High-temperature resistance: Standard fully vulcanized PP/EPDM grades can withstand temperatures up to 135°C, while engineering-grade TPVs-such as those introduced by DuPont-can endure temperatures exceeding 150°C;


2. Solvent and oil resistance: Due to the presence of a cross-linked rubber particulate phase within its structure, TPV typically exhibits superior resistance to solvents and oils.
